Hint: It’s really, really tall trees.

Some trees feel older than memory, pressing skyward for what seems like forever.

If you’ve ever walked through the old growth giants of Redwoods National Park, it truly feels like a religious experience.

Indeed, California has several of the world’s tallest trees. However, far across the globe, the island of Tasmania also holds a number of record breaking trees, with heights that feel unreal.

(As we posted this, we were reminded how sharing images of extremely tall trees never does them justice. Seeing these enormous living things in person is always a more rewarding experience.)

From Californiaโ€™s misty coasts to Tasmaniaโ€™s rugged valleys, the tallest trees in the world stretch past imagination.

These giants remind us that scale is not just about numbers, but about the stories living things carry.

Californiaโ€™s Sky Reachers

California is home to three of the tallest:

  • Hyperion, the record-holding coast redwood, nearly 380 feet tall.
  • Ravenโ€™s Tower, a Sitka spruce hidden in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, rising 317 feet.
  • An Unnamed Giant Sequoia in Sequoia National Forest, 314 feet of living history.

In Californiaโ€™s fog-draped forests, these trees are monuments to time, endurance, and patience.

Tasmaniaโ€™s Wild Giants

Tasmania holds its own, with three remarkable trees among the worldโ€™s tallest:

  • Centurion, a Eucalyptus regnans, at 327 feet.
  • White Knight, a manna gum that glows silver in the mist, standing 301 feet.
  • Neeminah Loggorale Meena, a blue gum with a name as lyrical as its towering form, at 298 feet.

Why They Matter

Numbers alone cannot capture what it feels like to stand among these giants. Each tree is a record of centuries, of fire and storm, of growth and stillness. They root us in scale, in humility, in wonder.

Addiction poses a hurdle for people and greatly affects both lives and families alike. Nonetheless, with support structures in place, recovery can be attainable. Specialized programs at rehab centers for substance abuse provide customized strategies to meet requirements, steering individuals toward enduring sobriety. This article explores the personalized methods utilized by these facilities to aid in recovery paths.

Understanding Personalized Care

Every person’s journey through addiction is unique. Tailored treatment offered by facilities like Healthy Life Recovery recognizes these distinctions by creating custom plans for each individual. These personalized plans take into account factors such as past substance use issues and personal choices. By centering on these aspects, rehabilitation facilities offer assistance that boosts the likelihood of achieving lasting recovery.

Comprehensive Assessment

The process starts with an evaluation carried out by experts to grasp the extent of addiction and any accompanying mental health concerns. This is essential for individuals undergoing treatment to craft care strategies that tackle every aspect of their challenges and promote overall healing through a holistic method.

Diverse Treatment Options

Recovery centers provide a variety of treatment choices designed to meet each person’s needs. Behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing are among the techniques used along with family counseling. Blending therapies offer a strategy that tackles the psychological and emotional facets of addiction. The personalized treatment guarantees that individuals get the support they need to conquer addiction.

Medical and Holistic Interventions

Medical treatments are crucial for aiding in the healing process of individuals seeking recovery from mental health conditions or addictions. Detox procedures and medications designed to assist in managing withdrawal symptoms have proven to be effective tools in this regard. Furthermore, practices like yoga, meditation, and art therapy act as supplements to interventions. These holistic approaches focus on enhancing one’s wellness by providing ways to deal with stress and triggers, thus encouraging individuals to discover new strategies for coping effectively.

Community and Support Networks

Creating a community is crucial during the recovery journey, according to rehabilitation centers, as they highlight the importance of establishing networks within and beyond their premises. Group therapy plays a role in fostering camaraderie and empathy among participants. Additionally, reaching out to support organizations enables individuals to sustain their sobriety post-treatment by offering motivation and responsibility.

Family Involvement in Recovery

Family engagement plays a part in how someone recovers from addiction issues as it affects the outcome of their recovery journey greatly. Many rehab programs include sessions for family therapy to work through any relationship problems that may have arisen due to addiction struggles. By promoting communication and empathy within families, trust and support can be rebuilt effectively.

Focus on Aftercare Planning

Maintaining recovery entails planning for ongoing support after treatment ends. Your rehabilitation facility will collaborate with you to develop treatment strategies. These plans detail methods for handling triggers, maintaining therapy sessions, and participating in community support networks. An effective aftercare plan provides individuals with the resources to navigate life outside of the rehabilitation center with confidence.

The Role of Ongoing Education

Education plays a role in rehabilitation as it equips individuals with insights into addiction and its impacts to help them make informed choices. In rehabilitation centers, workshops and seminars are held to educate individuals and their families on addiction awareness, preventing relapse, and effective coping mechanisms, which ultimately boosts self-assurance and promotes a stance toward recovery.

Emphasizing Long-Term Commitment

Recovering from addiction is a journey that lasts a lifetime. It’s important to commit to staying sober for the long term to succeed. Regaining focus on long-term recovery encourages people to set goals and acknowledge their achievements along the way. This approach helps individuals remain driven by reminding them of how far they’ve come and the opportunities awaiting them.

Summary

Drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers play a pivotal role in helping individuals overcome addiction through personalized treatment plans. By addressing unique needs, offering diverse therapies, and fostering supportive environments, these centers provide a solid foundation for lasting recovery. Embracing personalized care ensures that individuals receive the comprehensive support necessary to embark on a successful journey toward sobriety and a fulfilling life.

Weโ€™ve covered infrared photography in the past, and are amazed at the ways it can transform scenery into alien-like, surrealist worlds. ย Here weโ€™re featuring a series by Kate Ballis, an Australian former attorney, who left the world of law to pursue her passion for photography.

Her series Infra Realism takes place in Twin Palms, California and the surrounding Joshua Tree area, rich with 40s and 50s Americana. Vintage hotels, palm trees, and the sensibility of that time period.

The resulting images are wildly colorful, feeling more like otherworldly parallels than the real world. Via Fubiz:

“What makes the INFRA REALISM series special to me is how many ways there are of looking at it. To some, the palette is representative of 1980s Americana โ€“ of pink Barbie dolls driving blue corvettesโ€™, MTV, Miamiโ€™s neon signs โ€“ and asa child of the era,

I certainly canโ€™t escape my penchant for these hyper-realistic worlds that I looked at with awe in my youth in far-off Australia. And then thereโ€™s something spiritual about the work, too, in that it makes the unseen visible.”

This super sleek and futurist home in Bel-Air stands apart from the stately mansions and celebrity gated communities. Looking like a cross section of a Star Trek ship, the home features lines that are supposedly automotive inspired, and created using CNC machine milling.

The 7,440 square foot home would seem enormous in most places, but fits its corner lot surprisingly well, featuring three elaborate levels, dramatic interior features, and luxury finishes.

A 16-foot cantilevered second floor, movie theater, swimming pool and more make it just about as posh as can be expected from its $16,500,000 list price.

If you end up purchasing the home, we kindly request an invite. See more on Compass Realty.

MBARI, or the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute gives us a fascinating look at the weird and wonderful creatures that live in the deep water of Monterey Bay and beyond. Indeed, the waters reach depths of 1500 meters, or 4900 feet in the bay, allowing for nature to evolve some truly bizarre and unique ocean creatures.
This ten minute video shows us creatures at various depths, explored by MBARI’s remote operated vehicles. Each of the various depths and creatures are clearly described, giving you a firsthand look at what swims below.
It’s a great look at the diversity of sea life that are deep below the ocean’s surface.

Without living near a wildfire prone state, it’s really hard to understand the feeling of fragility and helplessness that come along with it. We’re writing this from Oregon, where record wildfires have torn through much of the state, leveling entire towns and leaving old growth forests ravaged. Thick smoke is hanging in the air, like a blanket of stinky fog, making it toxic to even walk down the block.

California’s recent wildfires have brought even worse smoke, with recent San Francisco conditions that mimic a true apocalyptic movie.

Indeed, the recent sci-fi thrilled Blade Runner 2049 featured eerily similar orange-hued scenes, set in a truly dystopian future.

A scene from the sci-fi film Blade Runner 2049

From a dystopian film set in 2049 to an eerie reality set 29 years earlier, it’s depressing to see the comparison at all, let alone so soon.

Autocamp is a group of outdoor lodges and ‘camps’ that cater to the discerning outdoors person, with a focus on great location and design. One of their newest undertakings is within Yosemite, which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places on earth. With a backdrop like that, it’s almost like your lodgings don’t matter. Luckily, you can have both, a gorgeous natural location, as well as tasteful, well-designed accommodations. Consisting of cabins, luxury tents, and classic Airstream trailers, the look and feel of Autocamp has been designed by Anacapa Architecture and Geremia Design. ย And while we love the nostalgia of the National Park Service lodges, it’s refreshing to see this modern take in the wild, with ample nods to classic cabin architecture. The gently rolling hills of California’s wine country have come alive with fields of light, thanks to Bruce Munro’s installation, Field of Light at Sensorio. ย The impressive installation uses over 60,000 glass orbs with LEDs, subtly shifting color and tone, creating an organic and sensory experience that’s sure to bring a smile to event the bigger skeptic’s face.

Located in Pasa Robles, California, the project has created quite a buzz in the community, and tours are offered through the fields. Curated dinners are also offered, giving diners a great view of the glowing fields. Read more about the project and its creator on The New York Times.

Coachella has become a major destination, a music festival that is eclipsing all others. This year the festival has teamed up with artists Joanne Tatham and Tom Oโ€™Sullivanย to create giant, colorful beasts that roam the grounds. The brightly painted monsters are gentle in demeanor, and have already been backdrop to countless selfies and concertgoer photos. In addition to the giant boxy beasts, Coachella’s art includes crazy house-like structures that involve psychedelic projection-mapping. Lots more to see on DesignBoom:

The skyline in San Francisco is poised to change with the addition of the Transbay Tower, a huge 1,070 foot tall skyscraper, due in 2017. It’s part of a larger project called the Transbay Transit Center, which is considered to be the Grand Central Station of the West, and will include a hub for the California high speed rail network. It will be by far the tallest building in the city, and will mark a new era of architecture in the Bay Area.
