Beautiful Frozen Bubbles In Alaska

photography-ryota-kajita-feature

Beautiful series called Ice Formations showcasing trapped CO2 and methane bubbles underneath a frozen Alaskan lake. The detail and patterns formed are really stunning.

While lovely to look at, they do portend a somewhat ominous sign, as permafrost starts to thaw, and methane that has been trapped underground for millennia bubbles up from the deep.

The series is from Ryota Kajita, who moved to Alaska from Japan, and finds beauty in the smallest of details.
