Lilium Promises Futuristic Air Travel Service by 2025

We have heard promises of flying cars and electric air travel for a while now, and we remain skeptical that this long-heralded transportation will come to fruition soon. However, Lilium, a German company, announced this week that their air taxi service would begin by 2025, allowing for quick, low-cost trips from city-to-city.

Powered by 36 electric jet engines, these rotate down for vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), and then pivot to a horizontal position to give thrust to the jet.

And with initial flights already under their belt, the company feels confident that within the next five years, they’ll have a safe, operable air taxi, capable of being hailed as easily as you might hail a Lyft or Uber. Via DesignBoom:
