Located in Marfa, Texas, El Cosmico plans to be the world’s first 3D printed hotel, when it opens in 2024.
The idea of printing structures and houses has been around for a few years now, with an entire neighborhood of printed homes completed in 2019.
A collaboration between Bjarke Engels Group, Liz Lambert, and 3D printing company ICON, El Cosmico will be a campground hotel, meaning the structures and layout will feel more like cabins than Ritz Carlton, but with a decidedly futuristic tilt.
Utilizing technology from ICON, the 62-acre community will include living spaces, a pool, spa, and communal facilities, all in an organic feel that embrace a natural color palette, and ‘Euclidian circular geometries’.
Icon’s huge Vulcan home printing system uses a proprietary Lavacrete material, which is durable, and exceeds homebuilding standards by up to 350%.
A cool project which looks to push the use of this 3D printed technology, expanding hospitality into a new, dynamic era.
“Featuring organic curves and domes set amidst the vast high desert landscape, the homes seamlessly carry forward El Cosmico’s tradition of merging art, nature and hospitality. The collection of the BIG-designed two, three and four bedroom homes feature expansive views of the Davis Mountains and range from 1,200 sq. ft to 2,200 sq. ft.”
