Settle – Carlisle
For lovers of national rail history, the Settle to Carlisle line takes some beating. This magnificent stretch of rail connects key communities in the northwest, spanning across the Yorkshire Dales and into Cumbria.
As well as a regular commuter train service operated by Northern, the Settle – Carlisle Railway operates special steam trains to help you have a fantastic day out. It’s one of the most convenient ways to explore the Yorkshire Dales National Park, connecting fantastic walking routes and natural wonders with Leeds and major commuting hubs in the north.

The Caledonian Sleeper departs from London and arrives at various locations across Scotland. Snowdon Mountain Railway
Off to Wales? If so, heading out on the railway is one of the finest ways to experience the wonders of Snowdonia National Park. Forget hiking to the summit of Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, and take the remarkable journey by rail instead.
Along the way, you’ll encounter awe-inspiring views and spot waterfalls, gorges and viaducts too. Your journey starts at Llanberis Station, and from there you’ll slowly work your way up to the mountain summit.
