Spencer hansens ancient spirits from the future

We’re taken by the strange yet gorgeous sculptural creatures that make up Spencer Hansen’s collection, entitled Tethered Worlds.

The sculptures feel like stepping into a place where time folds in on itself. His sculptures carry a distinctly tribal energy, as if they were unearthed from an old ritual site, yet they also look strangely futuristic, like relics from a civilization we haven’t met yet.

The ridged designs and repeated patterns have a lovely tactile nature, and range from six inches, to several feet tall.

Hansen resides in Bali, and has a truly impressive collection. See more on his website.

We love the ridged nature of the designs, and repeated patterns.

Hansen’s characters have a tribal and often alien look and feel.

A sculptural creature with a fuzzy texture, golden face, and raised hands, blending elements of tribal and alien aesthetics.

All entirely hand formed, sculptures are weeks or even months in the making.

A detailed wooden sculpture featuring a stylized face with carved ridges and a central circular feature on the forehead, creating a tribal yet alien aesthetic.

Using wood, steel, bone, ceramic and even fur, the forms have a timeless quality.

This four armed character is charming to behold.

A wooden sculptural piece featuring a hand design with ridged lines, incorporating a reddish stone center.

This alien skeleton fellow is a bit less charming, but equally fascinating.

The repeated ridges and gold aesthetic makes these figures highly covetable.
