The Hamptons in New York is a summer area known for wealthy New York City residents. It’s also known for traditional design, and not evocative, boundary-pushing architecture.
That’s what makes Blue Dream, a surreal, organic-form home in East Hampton stand out so much. Created for Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit founder Julie Taubman and her husband, businessman Robert Taubman, the home was designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro.
Made to feel like it’s airy and floating, the one-of-a-kind home features a flowing, curving interior and exterior, and an expansive wraparound glass walls.
Complete with organically-shaped furniture, finishings, and even some very questionable sculptures, the home is anything but boring, which we appreciate.

“The design of the home proceeds as a series of platforms, with a primary living space occupying the main level, with an expansive, wrap-around glass window that provides views of the ocean.
The study is perched above this space, and the primary bedroom occupies a cantilevered top floor that sticks out from the structure on the other side. Two bedrooms for children were stepped down, partially below grade.”
