After the tragic and dramatic bridge collapse in Baltimore Maryland, a replacement needs to be built to handle the heavy traffic.
Renowned Italian architect Carlo Ratti has proposed a modern, cable-stayed bridge to replace it, with a clean, crisp design. The improved replacement will feature a longer span and raised clearance of 230 feet, up from the previous bridge’s 185 feet.
In order to minimize disruption, the new bridge will be built near the start of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will build a temporary crossing while the permanent structure is constructed.
While the bridge’s proposal is not fully approved, it has a strong chance of being chosen, and shows an optimistic vision for the Baltimore region.

The new Baltimore bridge will not be “modern” in design. Americans have lost their creativity. I predict there will be lawsuits and protests surrounding the new bridge. This is the brave new world of America.
