Intricate Knit Inuits

Intricate knit inuits. Say that ten times fast. This series by Preta Wolzak takes the subject matter of indigenous people from the earth’s poles, and explores those themes through beautifully knit and embroidered faces. Using thread, leather, wool and fluorescent twine, her portraits paint a fascinating tale of culture and history.   Via Colossal:

Wolzak shares with Colossal that she uses her artistic practice to draw attention to the impact that tourism, manifest destiny, and climate change has had particularly on both the North and South Poles. Our exploratory interest in these seemingly far-off places has direct impacts on the people who live close to the Arctic and Antarctic.
