At theย 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Haitiโ€™s team arrived with uniforms unlike any others at the Games.

Designed by Italian-Haitian designerย Stella Jean, each piece wasย hand painted by artisansย and deeply rooted in Haitian heritage, from symbols of resistance to cultural motifs that speak to history and pride.ย ย

Jean originally planned to include an image of Haitian revolutionary leader Toussaint Louverture, drawn from a painting by artistย ร‰douard Duval-Carriรฉ, but theย International Olympic Committeeย ruled that political imagery was not allowed, prompting a redesign that kept the powerfulย red horseย at the center instead.ย ย

The result is more than athletic wear. It is a small, moving canvas of identity, crafted at a time when Haiti faces profound challenges at home.

In those few meters of cloth, stories of struggle, beauty, and stubborn resilience travel with Haitiโ€™s two athletes as they compete on the world stage.ย ย
