Camping Comfort, Rebuilt From the Inside Out

Most camping mattresses solve the same problem the same way. Add foam, trap air, accept compromise. Sleep becomes a negotiation with the ground.

The collaboration betweenย LAYERย andย MAZZUย starts by removing the assumption entirely.

Instead of foam, the mattress uses a grid of 72 small elastic spring units. Each one flexes independently, adjusting to your body rather than forcing your body to adjust to it.

The feeling is closer to a real bed than a pad, but it still packs down small enough to carry into the wild.ย ย
The pieces snap together with simple connectors and paracord, then collapse into a wheeled case that doubles as a campsite nightstand. Even the topper exists mainly to smooth the experience rather than create bulk.

What makes the design especially interesting is what it avoids. No polyurethane foam. No glue. Every component can be cleaned, replaced, or repaired individually. The idea is that outdoor gear should age like tools, not like trash.

Camping has long asked us to trade comfort for simplicity. This quietly asks the opposite question.
What if the cleverness lived in the structure instead of the stuffing?
