Off the coast of Yemen is a very special island called Socotra. It has some of the most unique plants and animals anywhere on earth. Separated from the mainland for millennia, the island developed it’s own unique ecosystems, and some of the strangest trees on the planet, like the famed Dragon’s Blood Tree and the Flowering Bottle Tree. The Dragon’s Blood Tree is mesmerizing, with crimson red sap and uniformed appearance, this rare beauty is under threat from climate change. The whole island feels otherworldly, almost like stepping onto a movie set, so foreign and picturesque. Sadly, recent tropical storms and Yemen’s politics unrest leaves this fantasy land under threat, and very vulnerable indeed. Via Feel The Planet:
