We’re fans of innovative use of materials, and even cheeky designs that question the status quo.
But even we were split over this collection of jewelry that features bread in place of precious gemstones.
Designer Cindy Xinyi Wu created this collection, entitled Rising, and its an ode to ‘the energetic nature of dough’.
On one hand, the idea is brilliant. It trades an expensive and rare material for one that is inexpensive and accessible. It also shows the dough’s ability to expand and squeeze out of its metal form, which makes for a fascinating juxtaposition.
On the other, the pieces look like they’d age and degrade quickly, and we’re not sure the jewelry would look good with mold-covered dough. What’s your take?

So it is real dough? My first thought is – the smell, that yeasty aroma would go bad. Second thought – why not use fake dough?
