Perched atop a secluded ridge on Keats Island, BC, The Nest by Daria Sheina Studio merges architectural precision with wild tranquility.

Composed of interlocking cuboid volumes, this prefabricated cabin appears to sprout quietly among the evergreens, as though naturally grown from the land itself.

Masterful Logistics

In collaboration with BC Passive House, each module of The Nest was crafted with transport in mind and shipped via truck, barge, then airlifted by helicopter.

The full installation unfolded in just two days, a feat in of itself. Yet every piece seemed purposefully placed in response to the island’s rugged terrain.

Minimal Footprint, Maximum Presence

Nestled on a 10-acre (4-hectare) parcel, this 1,063 sq ft (99 sq m) three-story cabin holds its ground with restraint.

On the ground level, clean lines open into a communal living space, kitchen, and bathroom, framed by generous glazing that envelops inhabitant in the surrounding forest.

Bedrooms are in the upper levels, each aligned with the cabin’s unique geometric form.

Vault of the Elements

Inside, exposed wooden surfaces and green Marmoleum flooring echo the mossy forest floor beyond, which helps ground the interior in natural calm.

Oversized lift-and-slide doors dissolve the boundary between shelter and landscape, while distinctive homeware introduces warm, playful character into the serene space.

100% Self-Reliant

We absolutely love that The Nest thrives completely off-grid. Solar panels power daily life, rainwater is harvested and filtered, and an incinerating toilet manages waste, all while the foundation minimizes concrete use to keep the impact on the forest light and gentle.

The bright wood interior gives an especially clean appearance, and a timelessness that we appreciate.

Great place to be and the scenery is beautiful. I will bet there is a lot of peace and quiet.
