If you’re traveling through Western Australia, a must see is the stunning, and sometimes otherworldly-looking Hutt Lagoon. A salt lake with an incredible pink color, the water is so vibrant due to the carotenoid-producing algae Dunaliella salina. Due to the huge quantity of this type of Dunaliella salina, artificial ponds have been set up to farm the algae. In addition, the lake has a commercial supply of brine shrimp, though we’re amazed life can thrive in such an alien-looking body of water.
