British animal photographer Gerrard Gethings has a knack for capturing personality through fur and feathers—and in his latest project, he’s taken that talent to a delightfully uncanny level.

In a series created for the memory game Do You Look Like Your Dog?, Gethings explores the age-old trope that pets and their owners tend to mirror one another. But rather than starting with humans, Gethings began by scouting the perfect canine characters first—each brimming with charisma and expressive charm. Only then did he find their human doppelgängers.

The result? A playful, sharply observed collection of 25 look-alike pairs—from a regal Afghan hound and her equally silky-haired human, to a tousled-haired boy and his scruffy pup companion. There’s even a Schnauzer whose beard game matches his leather-jacketed owner’s to uncanny effect.

Equal parts heartwarming and hilarious, the project is a love letter to the quirky bonds we share with our four-legged friends. It’s also proof that sometimes, we really do become our pets.

We dare you to peruse this collection of beautiful dog photos by Czech photographer Kristýna Kvapilová and not get a little misty eyed toward our four legged friends.

A young photographer with an Australian Shepherd of her own, Kvapilová has a preternatural ability to capture beautiful moments with furry friends.

Her use of light, bokeh, vignette, and emotion help bring these images to the next level.  Check out her great Instagram page for more inspiration. And our friends with cats, it’s ok, there’s still time to get a dog of your own. Via InspirationGrid:

The “cone of shame” is a well known hilarity in dog owner’s lives. After surgery, dogs are made to don ridiculous plastic cones, to keep them from messing with their stitches.

It makes dogs visibly embarrassed, and is generally just a goofy, necessary annoyance.

Photographer Winnie Au has flipped this concept on its head, with a series that showcases ‘cones of shame’ that are glammed out, made from all manner of unique and fancy materials.

Whether the dogs feel differently remains to be seen, but we think the fashion accessories are a pretty major win. Via Colossal:

In his hilarious and spot-on series by Gerrard Gethings, we see dogs and humans that have a striking, and even shocking resemblance to one another. Entitled, Do You Look Like Your Dog?, the series explores the many styles of people and their canine companions. Truthfully, the photographer sought out the animals first, and then found humans with a striking resemblance, so they aren’t necessarily the dog’s owners. But the result is so charming and funny, we’ll gladly ignore that tidbit, and just enjoy this really endearing photographic series. Via Colossal:

How could you not fall for these faces? Dogs aren’t just man’s best friend, they are a purer, better species in many ways, devoid of the deceit, hatred, and cruelty that humans are capable of. Photographer Alexander Khokhlov gets it, with his series The Dog Show. The trick with photographing dogs, however, is patience, as you’ll know all too well if you ask your pooch to sit still and look straight ahead.
