Madagascar is the world’s oldest island, and an amazing place for exploring, due to it’s unique flora and fauna that have evolved over millions of years.  It’s the only place in the world where lemurs live, and it has a number of jaw-dropping natural wonders found only there. Take the stone forest, which has been formed over millennia. It’s jagged peaks are otherworldly, and a visit there will transport you to a beautifully foreign land that juts out of the landscape like an eruption. It was formed by rain slowly washing down it’s peaks to dagger like points. It’s fair to say you don’t want to fall while exploring this beautifully dangerous outcropping.

Great Big Story has a lovely little look at this amazing place. Take a look. Photos by Stephen Alvarez, Pierre Koval, and Luc V. de Zeeuw.

Summer means road trips and camping, and it’s hard to beat the beauty of a National Park. Our planet is chock full of gorgeous scenery and diverse natural wonders, sometimes it can make your head spin thinking about where to go on your next adventure.  To help get you there, here are ten Instagram accounts that feature National Parks (and some state parks), featuring beautiful photography, and insight into some of the most beautiful places around. Some of the accounts are from official pages of a National Park, but many are from adventurous folks who dedicate their time to photographing natural wonders. Lace up those hiking boots… Via Curbed:

Namibia is a photographer’s dream, with the world’s largest dunes, huge open expanses, and wildlife that would make any skeptic swoon. Russian photographer Daniel Kordan does tremendous justice to this landscape, with a series of images that take the night sky to new heights, with long-exposure photos that turn the starry sky to a swirling vortex. The famous dead trees you’ve seen in photos are part of the Deadvlei, a white clay pan so dry, that the tree skeletons can’t even decompose, and have stood rigid for over 700 years. A truly beautiful part of Southern Africa.  See more of Kordan’s work on his website and InstagramVia Colossal:

We feature a number of landscape and nature photographers on Moss and Fog, and it’s great to see the unique vision for which they capture their images. Photographer Karl Shakur has a brilliant eye, and we’ve found a lovely misty quality to his photographs, lending an almost dreamlike feeling to them. His travels spans the globe, from the towering Redwoods of Northern California, to the parched deserts of China. Based in Kansas, Shakur has over 135,000 Instagram followers, and builds on his big audience by consistently delivering pristine images that put nature in the spotlight. Another reason to plan some exciting travels for the year. There’s a lot of beauty out there, just waiting to be captured.

We’re fans of Jesse Echevarria’s work, as can be seen here and here. His photographic eye is organic and poignant.  His travels take him to beautiful places around the world, exploring deserts and mountains alike. His most recent adventure showcases the beauty and purity of Maine, including Pemetic Mountain, Hunter’s Beach, and a number of other picturesque locales. The addition of drone photography gives his series an amazing aerial perspective, including rugged coastline and stands of evergreens.
