If Earth was distilled down to its essence, what would it taste like?

It’s an unusual question, but also a fascinating thought experiment. Considering our planet is 70% covered by oceans, there’s a good chance the overall taste is going to be salty.

Creating a bluish, salt flavored candy, Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa embodies our planet in a single, edible moment. More of an art piece than an actual product, the candy nonetheless is a disarming and unexpected creation.

Via Whod Design:

“About 70% of the Earthโ€™s surface is covered by oceans. If you could shrink the Earth down and put it in your mouth, it might taste salty.

This candy, inspired by such playful, child-like imagination, also aims to evoke thoughts of real-world issues, such as pollutants and marine debris flowing into the oceans.

The candy serves as a reminder to strive for oceans that, when imagined as a taste, would be delightful.”

  1. I donโ€™t think so! Salty, dull green, with bacteria and fungi that are ubiquitous. Gritty.
