Ever wake up with a dream slipping through your fingers, wishing you could hold onto it just a little longer?

The Dream Recorder, a poetic little device by design studio Modem, aims to do just that. It sits quietly on your nightstand, not as a phone app, but as a dedicated, screen-free object, and invites you to speak your dream aloud the moment you wake up.

From there, generative AI takes over, transforming your dream into a lo-fi video that’s as soft and abstract as the dreams themselves. The visuals are vague, fading, and surreal, less about accuracy and more about capturing the feeling of what you experienced while asleep. It’s part artwork, part memory aid, and a lovely bit of analog calm in an overly digital world.

The Dream Recorder isn’t meant to analyze or interpret. It simply reflects. Built with an open-source spirit, it can be made at home with a 3D-printed case and some basic components. No soldering, no coding wizardry, just a creative way to connect with your subconscious.

Does it work? Will you remember these fragmented moments?

We’ll see, once the device ships, and people can try it for themselves.
