This special edition whisky is a collaboration between The Macallan and the automaker Bentley, which seems like an unlikely pairing.
However, their unique chemistry have come up with a design that “challenges the conventions of traditional whisky”.
Indeed, the vessel that they’ve created is unlike any whisky bottle we’ve seen before. It’s called Horizon, which pays homage to the bottle’s orientation. Set on its side inside a sleek, twisted wood and copper frame, the golden liquid inside feels like it stepped off of a futuristic movie set.
We thought of the sleek set design in the recent Dune 2 movie, set on Arrakis, in a world far away. What would their vessels look like? Would they challenge our notion of what a bottle might be?
No doubt, the whisky within the unique enclosure is top notch, as described in Dezeen.
“For the whisky itself, The Macallan master whisky maker Kirsteen Campbell selected six individual first-fill sherry-seasoned oak casks from the stocks maturing in the warehouses at The Macallan Estate.
“Each of the six casks we selected to craft the whisky was carefully chosen to contribute particular characteristics and create a unique flavour profile, so that in combination they bring together the leather and oak notes found in the interior of a Bentley with the signature, warming spice of The Macallan,” said Campbell.”
The details reference some of Bentley’s car design detailing, from the knurled metal to the carefully selected wood grain, and the way the materials work with one another.
“Together, the six key materials form a unique concept that defies the traditional vertical aesthetic of a whisky bottle. The design reflects the horizontal trajectory of the automotive world, pushing the boundaries and the art of the possible.
The visionary design also features a glass bottle with an extraordinary 180-degree twist, representing the mastery of space and time achieved by both brands in creating the prototype, which has no standing base.”

The Macallan Horizon is a super limited and sought after collaboration with Bentley, and sells for over $50,000 per bottle.
