Samsung finally announced their whiz-bang folding screen phone this week, which was expected for the last several months. It’s decidedly good looking and high-tech, utilizing a foldable display design that doubtless took thousands of hours of research and development.

Whether the market decides these folding screen phones are more than a gimmick remains to be seen, but what’s known is that if you want one, you had better be willing to pay handsomely for it.

Starting at $1980, the Samsung Galaxy Fold is one of the priciest phones yet, costing more than most decent laptops. At this price level, we’d be surprised to see widespread adoption, aside from the dedicated tech nerds and early adopters. What do you think? Sexy technological advancement? Useless and overpriced?
