The Sublime Beauty of Raja Ampat

Raja Ampat is a chain of almost 1,500 islands off the coast of mainland Indonesia. It’s filled with tiny, tree covered islands, almost looking like little drips scattered amongst the teal blue waters.

Known as a natural hotspot, the islands include the most biodiverse marine habitat on the planet. It wasn’t always this way, in the past it was heavily overfished, leading to major collapses in shark populations. But in recent years the incredible beauty and natural importance have been realized, leading to protections.

Those protections have led to a rebound in fish population, and we’re grateful that a place as magnificent as this should be protected for decades to come. Photos via Adobe and Indonesia Travel:
