ArtistΒ Gabriel DaweΒ makes indoor rainbows, using colored string and thread installed in intricate bands of vibrant dimensionality. The work is bright, singular and fascinating, adding a subtle rainbow to architectural spaces, and allowing light to hit the art in beautiful ways. Via MyModernMet:

β€œA really important aspect of my work is the color,” he tells My Modern Met. β€œIt took the installations to really give me the permission to explore with the full spectrum. I’ve always really liked really bright colors. To me, tolerance is the embodiment of joy. So, not just color but the full spectrum. I love the idea that all of these different components come together to form a unity.”

A 90-mile long rainbow seems hardly possible to fit inside an airport terminal, until you realize it’s 90 miles of colored thread, strung to form an amazing rainbow installation. The San Antonio International Airport’s new art piece is created by Gabriel Dawe, and is made up of 19 different colors, creating a prism effect. EntitledΒ “Plexus C18”, the art piece is sure to enthrall thousands of passersby each day. Via CoolHunting:

Dallas-based artistΒ Gabriel DaweΒ (previouslyΒ hereΒ andΒ here) creates colorful site-specific installations using bright gradients of suspended thread. Above is a small selection of his work over the past year as part of hisΒ PlexusΒ series. Despite the geometric precision in each installation, it’s fascinating to see how some works become sort of amorphous clouds of floating color, and I’m sure seeing these on a computer screen hardly compares to seeing them up close. See much more on hisΒ website.
