Giant Wave Made of 168,000 Straws To Draw Attention to Plastic Waste

“It’s just one straw, said 8 billion people.”

The second half of 2018 saw some strong momentum toward a straw-free business culture, with a number of big brands moving towards eliminating single-use straws.  That momentum should continue, however, and artist/photographer Benjamin Von Wong made it his goal to create a dramatic series of images that would draw further attention to this global problem.

Called Strawpocalypse, Von Wong’s impressive sculpture/installation was put together by a team of volunteers, and utilizes over 168,000 straws that were salvaged or donated, not purchased in his native Vietnam. Via MyModernMet:

“Although this installation is made from straws, it isn’t just about straws. It’s about taking a first step towards paying attention to the plastic epidemic threatening the oceans we rely on.”
