Yakushima is one of Japan’s small islands, made famous in Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke, but also home to some special and rare flora and fauna, including a small area of ancient forests. Photographer Raphael Olivier has a great collection of lush forest images from this ancient grove, with Japanese cedars that date back up to 2,300 years. The trees aren’t growing in straight precision, however. They’re full of knotty, bent, gnarled and twisted character, with lush moss and greenery making the landscape look like something out of a movie set. Via Behance:
